Welcome to Billy Rogers Arroyo Park, a 75 acre natural area located near the heart of El Paso, between the Kern Place and Rim Road neighborhoods. It protects about a mile of the arroyo that extends
from the South Franklin Mountains to the Rio Grande by way of the UTEP Campus.
Friends
of The Arroyo is a loose coalition of local residents and other concerned citizens who came together about thirty years ago
in response to threats of development. Our efforts were rewarded in 2001 when this strip of city land was designated a nature
preserve by El Paso City Council. State Senator Eliot Shapleigh, former Parks and
Recreation Director Charles Nutter and veteran environmentalist John Sproul were a few of the people who made this possible.
Recently the park was officially named Billy Rogers Arroyo Park
in honor of the late Dr. Rogers, who was one of the park's most devoted supporters.
Friends
of The Arroyo Park Partnership, currently held by longtime Friend Matt Carroll, is responsible for cleanups and trail maintenance
of the lower end of the park.
